What It Is
FOXO4-DRI is a modified (D-retro-inverso) fragment of the FOXO4 protein studied as a senolytic. Senescent cells accumulate with age and secrete inflammatory signals; FOXO4-DRI is designed to target them specifically while sparing healthy cells.
How It Works
In senescent cells, FOXO4 holds p53 in check to keep those cells alive. FOXO4-DRI competitively blocks the FOXO4-p53 interaction, freeing p53 to drive apoptosis selectively in senescent cells. Healthy cells, which do not rely on this interaction, are largely unaffected.
